2012 A-Z Reading Challenge

This is the main link for the challenge

This challenge will run from January 1st, 2012 until December 31st, 2012.
You can join anytime.
If you are blogger, leave the link to your actual post about this challenge.
If you are not a blogger, leave a link to where you will be keeping track of this challenge.

So there are two different ways you can set up your own A-Z challenge.

A - Make a list now of 26 books, picking one for each letter of the alphabet. For example: A - Atonement B- Black Beauty C - The Count of Monte Cristo D - Dances with Dragons etc.

OR

B - The lazy way (how I do it) : Make a list on your blog from A-Z. Throughout the year, as you go along, add the books you are reading to the list. Hope that by the end of the year you have read one book for each letter. Towards the end of the year, you can check and see which letters you are missing and find books to fit.

Each month, I will add another challenge to this main challenge. It might to read a book with both A and Z in the title or to read a book with 3 words that all start with the same letter. I might host a few random giveaways too for good measure. If you've got some idea for the mini-challenges, send them my way!

Since it is really hard to find titles beginning with X, the letter X just needs to be in the title somewhere.

So to join along....
1. Write a blog post about this challenge and whether you are going go with A or B.
2. Add the button to your blog.
3. Attach yourself to the linky.
4. Follow my blog so that you can see when I post the monthly challenge!

Count-down Challenge

This is the main link for this challenge

Rules:
You select from the following categories and decide how many - in descending order - and which ones you want to read the most, in which order, over the next year.

EXAMPLE: You decide to start at 12. You choose Group Reads, and read twelve books. Then Group Member Authors, and read eleven. Then Continuing SEries, and listen to ten. On down the list to one. You do NOT have to read only one category in one month, you can space them out, pick and choose.

If you choose 12 books, this would be 78 books over the next year, if you go all the way down to 1, but you can choose 5 down to 1, which would be 15. Or 10 down to 5, which would be 45 books.

Each book can only be counted once in the challenge

Post as you go, or commit to them all now.

Romance Reading Challenge 2012

This is the main link for the challenge.

1. The challenge runs from January 1st, 2012 through December 31st, 2012.
2. "Romance" isn't limited to steamy Harlequin novels. There is a huge selection of books in this category such as contemporary romance, historical romance, romantic suspense and paranormal romance to name a few. As long as the story has romantic love between the two main characters your selection will fit this challenge. The novels do not need to have a happy ending either, there can also be unrequited love.
3. Choose at least 5 novels to read. You can change your choices at any time. Crossovers between other challenges are fine.
All kinds of books count such as eBooks, Audiobooks...etc.
If you are looking for suggested reading see Best Romance Novels Today, Romance Novels on Wiki or Best Romance Stories.
In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Jane Austen, Nora Roberts, Nicholas Sparks and Georgette Heyer.
4. Read the books at your own pace in 2012 then post the link to your review(s). You don't need to have a blog, posting your reviews on Goodreads and LibraryThing counts as well.
-----------------------------

I chose this button because The Notebook is one of my favorites as a book and a movie :)

Here is my list for this year..

The 2012 Short Story Challenge

This is the main link for this challenge.

What is a short story?Short stories are works of fiction, often written in prose. They tend to be more pointed, focused, and contained than novels.

Why do short stories matter?
The short story is one of the most exciting and important literary forms, and that it can, and should, reach the widest possible readership.

Where can I find short stories?
Anywhere and everywhere. Anthologies, magazines, newspapers, and even on-line.

Still interested? Then take a look at the must-read details:

  • The 2012 Short Story Challenge runs January 1st, 2012 to December 31st, 2012.
  • You can sign up at any time.
  • You do NOT need a blog to sign up - just somewhere online to monitor your progress (personal blog, goodreads, facebook, twitter, etc.) But please post something that shows you are participating in the challenge - it doesn't have to be a full post, a link/tweet/sidebar listing is enough!
  • You need to read at least 12 short stories. Ain't that easy? Easy peasy. That's one short story a month. Of course, you can choose to read more than 12. Why would you want to? Well, because short stories are brilliant.
  • There will a giveaways! I'll be giving away two anthologies over the course of the year for challenge participants.
1. Teacher Gets Taught by Chloe Cox
2. Parkinson's Disease Looking Down the Barrel by Richard Secklin
3. Daddy Of The Bride by Katie Cramer
4. Daddy's Little College Girl: A Step-Daughter's Fantasy by Bailey Marie
5. I'll Do Anything For This Job by Holly Love
6. Anal Obsession by Aaron Ace

A to Z Reading Challenge 2012

This is the main link for this challenge

So what does this A to Z Reading Challenge entail? The A to Z Reading Challenge, which shall henceforth be known as AZRC, challenges you to read and review one book starting with every letter of the alphabet. There are three possible challenges you can partake in.

1. Author - A to Z by authors last name, 26 books.
2. Title - A to Z by book title, 26 books.
3. Double Whammy - Do both Challenge 1 and 2 for a total 52 books.

Note: There is no option to do some by author and some by title and read only 26 books.

Deadlines?
The deadline to register is May 31, 2012

What books count towards this challenge?
Anything you want. Well not anything. It has to be a book. You can count books you are reading for other challenges if you would like and rereads are perfectly fine. The only thing is you have to have read the book between January 1,2012 and December 31, 2012. Part of this challenge is also reviewing the books and if you finished a book on December 31, you probably aren't going to review it that night. So the deadline for reviews is January 31, 2013.
And to reiterate, for books read, it only counts through the December 31.

Why should I partake in this?
Because you love me? Shouldn't that be enough. Just kidding. It should be really fun. The plan is to have fun fun activities every other week. (52 weeks in the year, 52/2 = 26, 26 letters in the alphabet. you get it). I'm going to start planning these really soon. THERE COULD BE MINI CHALLENGES INVOLVED! THERE COULD BE GIVEAWAYS! THERE COULD BE DISCUSSIONS! THERE COULD BE ALL THREE! I'll keep you posted I promise. And the best part for the giveaways that will happen, you are automatically get one entry JUST for participating.

I have an idea! Can I contribute?
YES! ABSOLUTELY YES! 26 events over the year is a lot to wrap my brain around and I definitely can't do it alone. So if you have any ideas at all, for now just email me at strawberryAvalancheReviews(at)gmail(dot)com and we'll talk. Later on, I'll have forms up for more specific things I need from you guys.

Oh and if you an author and have a book coming out in 2012 and you want to represent its first letter or the first letter of your last name, email me!!

How can I join?
There is a linky thing down there, just add your name with a link to your blog and BAM you've joined. Then you go tweet about, blog about, tell all your friends! Well you don't have to do those things. But if you did, it would be so awesome. I will be making buttons later unless someone with awesome artistic abilities wants to make some for me.

So I really hope this will be fun and it won't just be me by myself reading books with different letters of the alphabet.

NOTE:
X is a sucky letter. Try to find a book that starts with or an author that starts with X. But if all else fails, X in the title (or authors name) is fine!
And if you have any recommendations for X books, let me know. I think others would appreciate the suggestions as well :)

If you would like to sign up for the A to Z Reading Challenge, leave a direct link below to your blog or goodreads. Thank you!

2012 Rainbow Reading Challenge

This is the main link for this challenge or this, I'm still not sure.

Each month has been assigned a color (along with some common alternate words to add variety). You just have to find a book with that color in the title. That’s it! As you read, come post the title and author of the book for that month below. At the end of the year… anyone who has post EACH MONTH, and completed ALL COLORS, will receive a handmade (by me) bracelet with a bead for each color, and a book charm to finish it off. I’m working on a grand prize (one random winner, only) basket of lovely, color themed books as well, but that will be a WIP during the year. In order to qualify for the bracelet, or be entered into the grand prize drawing for the basket, you MUST post each month with your title/author. If you post any reviews about the books you’ve read for this challenge, please post the link in your comment and I’ll send it out on Books Make Me Happy Twitter and Facebook streams.

*All books must be at least 200 pages, or the ebook equivalent.*
Colors for each month are:
  • January – Red (burgundy, claret, crimson, fuchsia, garnet, magenta, maroon, ruby, scarlet, rose, cherry)
  • February – Purple (violet, lavender, amethyst, lilac, plum, periwinkle)
  • March – Aquamarine (teal, turquoise)
  • April – Clear (transparent, translucent, crystal, diamond)
  • May – Green (emerald, jade, malachite, lime, pine, sage)
  • June – Black
  • July – Pink (blush, carnation, mauve)
  • August - Brown (chocolate, tan, bronze)
  • September – Blue (cobalt, cerulean, navy, indigo, sapphire)
  • October – White (snowy)
  • November – Orange (peach, salmon, coral, tangerine, copper)
  • December – Silver (sterling, platinum, chrome, gray)

If you think you’ll have trouble finding books with the correct colors… check places like GoodReads.com and Google Books. Just search for the color and see what pops up!! (If you find a book with a color-type word you want to use, but it’s not on the list, email me or @ me on twitter to check.) Hopefully this will encourage all of us to look outside of our “tried and true” and find some fantastic new books. I’ll be posting my book/author each month below, can’t wait to see what YOU all find!!
Good Luck, and Happy Reading!!!

New Author Challenge 2012

This is the main link for the challenge.

Here are the guidelines:
  1. The challenge will run from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.
  2. Since this is an author challenge, there is no restriction on choosing your novels. They can definitely be from other challenges. However, the authors must be new to you and, preferably from novels. Anthologies are a great way to try someone new, but only a third of your new authors can be from anthologies.
  3. I want this to be an easy challenge, so you can pick to do either 15, 25 or 50 new authors. It all depends on how fast you read and how adventurous you want to be. For me, I want to say I’m going to do another 50 new authors, but with two kids, I didn’t made my goal in 2011, so I’m going to be smarter and say 25. If you reach your goal halfway through the year, don’t stop. Any new author you try can be added to Mr. Linky. We all want to know about your new experience.
  4. After reading your new author, write your review and then come back here and add your link to Mr. Linky. Make sure you include your name and the author, but adding the title is completely up to you.
  5. Bloggers or Non-Bloggers alike are welcome. You don’t have to have a site to participate. You can link up via Facebook, GoodReads or even Amazon if you’d like.
Once you reach your goal, you don’t have to stop. Any new author you try, go ahead and head back here and add it to the list. Introduce us all to whoever you find. Afterall, there’s no reason to stop trying new authors, right?

I passed the 15 book mark so I'm going to push to the 25 mark!!

1. Teacher Gets Taught by Chloe Cox
2. Parkinson's Disease Looking Down the Barrel by Richard Secklin
3. Daddy Of The Bride by Katie Cramer
4. Daddy's Little College Girl: A Step-Daughter's Fantasy by Bailey Marie
5. I'll Do Anything For This Job by Holly Love
6. Anal Obsession by Aaron Ace

Challenge Details

Timeline: 01 Jan 2012 - 31 Dec 2012

Rules: There are FOUR (4) LEVELS to choose from:

- One Sexy Demon: Read 6 Speculative Romance novels in 2012

- Two Sexy Werewolves: Read 12 Speculative Romance novels in 2012

- Three Sexy Vampires: Read 18 Speculative Romance novels in 2012

- Four Sexy Archangels: Read 24 Speculative Romance novels in 2012

You don't have to select your books ahead of time, you can just add them as you go. Also if you do list them upfront you can change them, nothing is set in stone! The books you choose can crossover into other challenges you have on the go.

You can join at anytime. All books read in 2012 count towards the challenge regardless of when you sign up.

At the beginning of Jan 2012, you will find a link to specific month to add your reviews.

Audiobooks do not count, but all other formats are accepted.

Only fiction, no non-fiction.

This challenge can crossover to other challenges.

You DO NOT have to write reviews of the books you read, but if you decide you would like to then Mr Linky will be available each month so you can link up your reviews.
You don't have to have a blog to join in - for those without a blog but who use Goodreads, Amazon, LibraryThing etc, you can add the URL to where you track your books. If you don't have a URL at all then choose a name you would like to use and then copy and paste the following link:

http://www.bookchickcity.com/2011/12/sign-up-speculative-romance-challenge.html

GENRES:

- Paranormal romance
- Dark fantasy romance
- Urban fantasy romance
- Steampunk romance
- Sci-fi romance
- Apocalyptic romance

If you can think of any other sub-genres let me know by leaving a comment and I will add to the list. I often get emailed asking if such and such a book is classed as romance - in my opinion as long as the main plot line is the romance element then you're good to go! Also remember, this is 'speculative' romance so no historical or contemporary allowed ;)

I'm gonna go with 1 Sexy Demon which means I get to read 6 books.. I don't want to over expect so I don't get frustrated :)

This is the main link for this challenge.

What It’s All About

Do you love books? Do you love them so much your to be read list seems to keep growing, and growing, and growing? Is space on your bookshelf taken up with unread books? Is your eBook library burgeoning with unread stories? We’ve been there at BA and we still are!
This challenge is to read those books you own a copy of, print, digital, and audio, you have been meaning to read, but never gotten to. If you don’t own enough books for the challenge you can read your TBR list instead. And no, you do not need to get rid of your books afterwards, that’s completely your choice, this challenge is only to read them.

The Deets

  • The Main Rule: Do not include books acquired during 2012, it defeats the purpose, read those books from before 2012 started!
  • Running Dates: 1st of January – 31st of December 2012
  • When Can I Sign Up: All the way up to the last two weeks of December 2012!
  • Crossover Genres: Anything! The name of the game is to turn those unread books into read ones.
  • Mr Linky: To use the Mr Linky you’ll need to click on the graphic then enter your link. These will be updated and posted into this page every couple of weeks or so.
