Quarterly Gang Bang Challenge Q3 2011

This is a challenge from the M/M Romance groups in Goodreads, here is the link for the challenge

A combination of the "Pick It For Me" challenge and the "What Do I Read Next" thread, this challenge is a reading gang bang!

How it works:

Step 1. Post in this thread that you want to participate and which shelf you want your books selected from. You will have until Wednesday 6/15 to sign up.

Step 2. Once everyone is signed up, each participant will select at least one book for everyone else who signed up. You must pick books from the shelf the participant specified they want their books chosen from

Step 3. Send each participant a private message with the name of the book(s) you have chosen for them. Do not post your selections here.

Step 4. Create a challengers list in this thread (see this thread as an example). Please include the shelf you want your books selected from.

Step 5. As you read each book on the list, indicate the book has been read by either striking through it, putting the date read, # of stars awarded, or a combination of all three, next to the title.

Rules:

1. You may read as many or as few books as you want but try to at least read 30 over the course of the 3 month challenge.
2. Each book should be in the M/M genre but I'll allow you to slide now and then.
3. Please include a "read" indicator at the top of your post, 0/10 Read.
4. When you update, please edit your original post and do not create a new post each time.
5. You will have July 1st to September 30th to read each of the books. You may not start any of your books until July 1st.
6. If you profile is private, you will need to "friend" each one of the participants so they can see your bookshelves.
7. Update your list in the Participants thread and your "Gang Bang" shelf (see Tips below) as soon as you receive a recommendation to help avoid getting duplicates selected for you.
8. PLEASE do not begin selecting books for the participants until June16th.

Tips:

✓ Create a special shelf (not your To-Read shelf) that contains just the books you'd like the participants to select from. Make sure this shelf is up to date and contains enough books for all the participants to chose from.

✓ Create a "Gang Bang" shelf and shelve each of the books picked for you on this shelf. That will let everyone know not to select that book again since it has already been picked.

✓ If you pick a book that is part of a series, make sure they have already either read the previous books or those books have already been chosen for them.

✓ "Friend" everyone before the challenge begins to make sending them a message faster and easier.

✓ Select 2 or 3 books for each participant in case someone else has already recommended your first pick.

✓ When you recommend a book, include a link to it in the message you send so it's easier for the recipient to add the book to their challenge shelf.

✓ You may use the same books for multiple challenges.

I  will post the books chosen for me here when they do get chosen !!

    • You don't have to select your books ahead of time, you can just add them as you go. Also if you do list them upfront you can change them, nothing is set in stone! The books you choose can crossover into other challenges you have on the go.

    • You can join anytime between now and the later part of next year.

    • At the beginning of Jan 2011, you will find a link to specific month to add your reviews. There will be a monthly prize too courtesy of the lovely Simon & Schuster - you must be signed up to the challenge and add the link to your review to be entered into the monthly prize draw.

Now, there are many different sub-genres of mystery and suspense - you can choose from the numerous sub-genres, from cosy mysteries such as Agatha Christie to the more hard-boiled kind like V I Warshawski by Sara Paretsky, or romantic suspense written by the likes of Linda Howard, forensic crime such as those written by Kathy Reichs and even paranormal/supernatural suspense such as Kelley Armstrong. I'm sure this challenge will have something for everyone! :)

To help you figure out and decide, I have updated a sub-genre list - to view this list go HERE.

    Romance Reading Challenge 2011

Naida @ The Bookworm is hosting this challenge.

    The Guidelines:

    1. "Romance" isn't limited to steamy Harlequin novels. There is a huge selection of books in this category such as contemporary romance, historical romance, romantic suspense and paranormal romance to name a few. As long as the story has romantic love between the two main characters your selection will fit this challenge. The novels do not need to have a happy ending either, there can also be unrequited love.

    Here are a few suggestions:
-anything written by Jane Austen: classics/regency romance
-Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell: historical romance
-Nicholas Sparks books: contemporary romance *have box of tissues handy*
-Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding: contemporary romance/humor
    -Gena Showalter's books: contemporary romance/paranormal
-The Twilight series By Stephenie Meyer: YA Romance/paranormal
-Benny & Shrimp by Katarina Mazetti: contemporary romance
-The Princess Bride by William Goldman: fantasy/romance/humor
-Frederica by Georgette Heyer: regency romance
-Outlander by Diana Gabaldon: time travel romance
-The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss: historical romance
-Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë: gothic romance/classics

    2011 A to Z Challenge

Becky is hosting this challenge here.

    January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011

How does this reading challenge work? Choose the option that works best for you...

Authors -- Read alphabetically by author. Commit to 26 books.
Titles -- Read alphabetically by title. Commit to 26 books.
Authors & Titles -- Commit to reading 52 books

How strict is the 26 or 52? I know it isn't always easy to find those difficult letters. The thought of finding the X's (for example) might scare folks away. It shouldn't! I'm a merciful host! (Ask anyone!)

If you want to give the X's a go... For authors, try to find an X in the first name, middle name, or last name. For titles, it doesn't have to be the starting word. Try to find an X somewhere in a title, and it'd count in my book.

Still can't find a book for the letter you need? I'll take your word for it. I've been there. I know. If your library doesn't see the need to order books just because it starts with an X, then I don't blame you for not wanting to special order a book that you may or may not enjoy. You gave it your best, don't feel bad. You can still make this challenge work for you.

For ideas on what to read, check out these former challenge sites: year one, year twoyear three.

So I'll be going with the "Titles" challenge.. I know I have participated before but never finished it.. That does not mean I won't try again.. And keep trying till I conquer it :)
